I have been doing this for 20 years now. I don't know why I never thought of this before but I think that some of these success stories need to be told! So, I am starting today!
Meet Melissa. She arrived at my doorstep with only the clothes on her back. She had no job, no place to go and not a friend to turn to. The only thing she had was parents willing to help her with rent for the first couple of months.
She immediately got herself a job with Disneyland working in one of the restaurants. I was concerned how she would get to work but she managed every day until one day she came home with a car. She had a little help from dad getting it but the payments were in her name and she immediately started to be an Uber/Lyft driver. Now she had 2 full time jobs and without a whole lot of time going by she announced she was taking over rent payments. Another couple of months later she enrolled in college and began taking classes to become a doctor. Anytime she wasn't at work or school she was on the couch with her books piled in front of her asking me questions about what she was studying. Now, I have a college degree but I didn't have a clue to most of the answers. I just burst with pride that she had such quizzical looks on her face and her refusal to just google something for the answer.
I watched her grow from an awkward young lady of 23 years old into a flower that was bright as the day is long! She was like a butterfly shedding her cocoon and she started socializing and trying to balance her life with things other than work and school. She was here for a year when her grandmother died and left her some money. She bought a piece of land in Crest-line and a house in Florida. She now travels from LA where she continues her jobs and school to Florida where she is working on upgrading her house. I am so proud of you Melissa...keep those wings lifted and soar! xxoo
